Just wanted to leave you a littl...Congrats Kayln!

Just wanted to leave you a little note that might make you feel better about only having one ultrasound... It has continuously been drilled in my head during med school that ultrasounds are not healthy for the baby in excess. It is quite the new trend for new moms to get multiple ultrasounds and watch their babies grow. Most of our parents probably only had one. Doctors can bill for reimbursement from many insurance companies, but many people are also willing to pay out of pocket. Reimbursement from medical insurance is down significantly in medical care (to the point where you'd be amazed that many doctors can afford to stay in practice). Things that physicians can file for as "medically necessary" - such as an ultrasound (even if it's not needed) - provide a wonderful source of reimbursement for them to make up for the lack of reimbursement for other tests and appointments. Many of them won't tell you they are harmful. The risk is minimal - compared to the amount of a profit they make off them. Health care has gotten wonderful in pediatrics. We can save extremely premature babies, so many physicians turn their back on simple old truths like the dangers of ultrasonic exposure. While they can be necessary to monitor growth and especially with any pregnancy complications, if a baby and mom are healthy and doing fine, there's no need to expose them to something that causes cellular damage. I have had many professors stress during lectures that ultrasounds can cause hearing loss in suspectible babies due to the internal heat and vibration and sound levels in the cavity. After learning about what happens on a cellular level, I would much rather get a little glimpse of my little peanut and wait for the day that he/she arrives to see them again! Besides, there's that great element of excitement!! :) Hate to say it's just a dirty way for doctors to make a profit off of very excited new parents, but it is!Erin Ashleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18259465015909959067noreply@blogger.com
